Smart Education seeks to redefine learning in a post-pandemic world. With Singapore prioritising lifelong learning and digital literacy, solutions like AI-driven personalised curricula, VR classrooms, or gamified skill-building platforms can democratise access to quality education. These tools empower learners of all ages to thrive in a rapidly evolving job market, fostering a culture of continuous innovation and bridging socioeconomic gaps through technology.
Smart City
As urbanisation intensifies, Smart City innovations are key to building sustainable, efficient communities. The concept of a smart city integrates IoT, data, and AI to optimise digital and physical infrastructure, energy use, resource management, and more. Participants might tackle cyber hygiene, sustainability, smart built environment, city mobility related challenges. Innovation in this field will not only improve quality of life but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of Singapore.
Online harms are a growing concern in Singapore. According to an online safety poll by the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), 84% of respondents encountered harmful content online in 2025, a notable rise from 74% in 2024.
To help Singaporeans navigate the digital space more safely, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has identified four key actions that anyone can adopt:
Youths today spend a large portion of their lives online, where boundaries around personal information, emotional wellbeing, and screen time can easily blur. How might we help them take control of their digital environment?
Problem Statement:
How might we use AI to analyse user’s online interactions like posts, comments, and shares in real-time to flag oversharing of sensitive data and educates them on potential risks?
The ease and speed of online interactions can lead to impulsive posts, comments, or shares; some of which may have long-lasting consequences. How might we encourage thoughtful digital behaviour?
Problem Statement:
How might we use AI to identify and amplify acts of digital kindness (e.g., supportive comments, constructive feedback) within a platform, creating a “Kindness Score” or highlight reel that rewards positive behaviour?
Online harm can take many forms, from scams and grooming to cyberbullying. While platforms offer tools like blocking and reporting, youths may not always feel equipped or supported to use them. How might we change that?
Problem Statement:
How might we develop a real-time “Harm Pattern Recognition Assistant” that uses advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) models, such as those based on Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) for detecting nuanced cyberbullying in code-mixed language, to proactively analyze message content and conversation patterns? This AI would flag potential harms like grooming tactics or bullying with high accuracy, providing gentle, contextual alerts to the user.
When youths encounter uncomfortable or harmful online experiences, many hesitate to talk to someone about it. How might we make help-seeking feel safe, easy, and normal?
Problem Statement:
How might we develop AI-powered “Interactive Scenarios” that allow families to safely explore potential online situations together, fostering discussions about privacy and emotional well-being before problems arise, thereby building a proactive and shared sense of digital responsibility.
